Ephesians 1:4–5 (NIV)
"For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will."
Holy Spirit Insight
Many women spend their lives trying to earn what God has already freely given.
We work harder.
We try to be better.
We carry everyone's burdens.
We strive to be the perfect wife.
The perfect mother.
The perfect daughter.
The perfect Christian.
Somewhere along the way, we begin to believe that if we perform well enough, perhaps God will love us a little more.
But that is not the Gospel.
Before you ever prayed your first prayer...
Before you ever opened your Bible...
Before you ever succeeded—or failed...
Before anyone applauded you or rejected you...
God chose you.
Not because you were perfect.
Not because you had everything together.
Not because you deserved it.
He chose you because His love has never depended on your performance.
His love has always flowed from His heart.
There is a tremendous freedom in understanding this truth.
You don't wake up each morning trying to earn God's approval.
You wake up already loved.
Already accepted.
Already welcomed.
Already His.
When that truth settles deep into your heart, striving begins to give way to resting.
Fear begins to give way to peace.
And your relationship with God becomes less about proving yourself and more about walking with the Father who delights in you.
Bible Story Reflection
Think about David.
When the prophet Samuel came to Jesse's house to anoint the next king of Israel, David wasn't even invited.
His father believed his older brothers were more qualified.
David remained in the fields, faithfully tending sheep.
If anyone had looked at that family gathering, David would have been the least likely choice.
Yet God said,
"People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
(1 Samuel 16:7)
The youngest son.
The overlooked shepherd.
The forgotten one.
He was God's choice all along.
David didn't earn God's calling that day.
He simply stepped into what God had already planned.
Sometimes we feel overlooked by people.
But we have never been overlooked by God.

As I reflect on my life, I realize there were many moments when I questioned whether I was enough.
Growing up in Cambodia, I never imagined that God could use someone like me.
There were seasons when I felt small.
Unqualified.
Ordinary.
Later, even after coming to America, there were moments when I wondered whether my background, my struggles, or my limitations would prevent me from fulfilling God's purpose.
But through His Word, the Lord patiently taught me something beautiful.
He never called me because I was ready.
He called me because He was faithful.
Everything He has accomplished in my life has been the result of His grace—not my perfection.
Looking back, I see His hand guiding me long before I recognized it.
He chose me before I understood His plan.
And dear friend, He has chosen you too.
Not because you have earned His love.
But because His love has always been reaching toward you.
Heart Reflection Questions
- Do you ever feel like you have to earn God's love or approval?
- What expectations do you place on yourself that God has never placed on you?
- How does it change your heart to know that God chose you before you could ever prove yourself?
- Where is God inviting you to stop striving and begin resting in His love?
- What gifts or calling might you be afraid to embrace because you don't feel "ready"?
Living It Out
This week, whenever you catch yourself thinking,
"I'm not enough,"
Pause and replace that thought with God's truth.
Say aloud:
I am chosen.
I am loved.
I am accepted.
I belong to my Heavenly Father.
Don't strive to earn what has already been given.
Instead, begin each morning by thanking God for His unconditional love before you begin your work for the day.
Let your service flow from being loved—not from trying to become lovable.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for choosing me before I ever knew how deeply You loved me.
Forgive me for the times I have tried to earn what You have already freely given.
Thank You that Your love does not depend on my performance.
Thank You that I do not have to prove my worth to You.
Teach me to rest in Your grace.
Help me release the fear that I am not enough.
When I compare myself to others, remind me that You have uniquely created me for the purpose You prepared long ago.
Give me confidence to walk in the calling You have placed upon my life.
May everything I do be a response to Your love rather than an attempt to earn it.
Thank You for calling me Your daughter.

Truth to Carry Today
God did not choose you because you were ready.
He chose you because He loves you.
And the God who called you will faithfully equip you for everything He asks you to do.

"Lord, help me stop striving for Your approval and begin resting in the love You have already poured out on me."

If you've spent years trying to be "good enough," "strong enough," or "spiritual enough," I pray this truth settles deeply into your heart:
God's love was never something you had to earn.
It has always been a gift.
Rest in that gift today.
Let His love quiet your fears and strengthen your confidence.
You are His beloved daughter, chosen with purpose and held securely in His hands.
